Privacy Policy

Last updated: 21 March 2026

Revolt.Inc ("we", "us", "our") operates the MediaBoxMC desktop application (the "App") and the website mediaboxmc.com (the "Website"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect information when you use our App and Website, in compliance with the General Data Protection Regulation (EU) 2016/679 ("GDPR") and applicable data protection laws.

We are committed to protecting your privacy. MediaBoxMC is designed with a privacy-first approach: the App stores all data locally on your device, collects no personal information, and transmits no telemetry or analytics data to our servers.

1. Information We Collect

1.1 Website (mediaboxmc.com)

When you visit our Website, the following data may be processed:

  • Browsing data: Your IP address, browser type, operating system, referring URL, pages visited, and timestamps are processed by Cloudflare's infrastructure to deliver the Website. Cloudflare may temporarily process this data for security, performance, and caching purposes in accordance with Cloudflare's Privacy Policy.
  • Cloudflare Web Analytics: We use Cloudflare Web Analytics, a privacy-focused analytics service that does not use cookies, does not collect personally identifiable information (PII), and does not track individual users across sites. It provides only aggregate metrics such as page views and visit counts.
  • Technical cookies: The Website may use strictly necessary technical cookies for basic functionality such as language preference storage. These cookies do not track you and contain no personal data. No third-party tracking cookies are used.

1.2 Desktop Application

The MediaBoxMC App stores all data exclusively on your local device in the directory %LOCALAPPDATA%\MediaboxMC\. The following data is created and stored locally:

  • Media library metadata: File paths, file names, BLAKE3 content hashes, file sizes, container formats, video and audio codec information, resolution, duration, bitrate, and other technical specifications of your multimedia files.
  • TMDB metadata: Titles, original titles, plot summaries, cast and crew information, genres, release dates, ratings, and poster/backdrop images cached locally. This metadata is fetched from The Movie Database (TMDB) API using your own API key.
  • Watch history: Records of which media files you have watched, playback progress and resume positions, timestamps of viewing sessions, and playback completion status.
  • User preferences and settings: Application configuration, display preferences, language settings, library folder paths, and UI customizations.
  • Diagnostic logs: Error messages, application crashes, UI freeze reports, and performance data. Logs are stored in a maximum of 5 files with automatic rotation to limit disk usage.
  • Library folder paths: The directories you have designated as media library sources.

1.3 Data We Do NOT Collect

The App does not collect any of the following:

  • Personal data (names, email addresses, phone numbers, or any PII)
  • User accounts or registration data
  • Telemetry or usage analytics
  • Device fingerprinting data
  • Behavioral tracking or profiling data
  • Location data
  • Contacts, calendar, or other device data
  • Contents of your media files

2. External Communications

The App communicates with the following external services exclusively for functionality purposes. No personal data is transmitted in any of these communications:

  • TMDB API (api.themoviedb.org): Search queries (titles, keywords) and your configured language preference are sent to retrieve metadata for your media files. Your TMDB API key (which you provide) is included in requests. No personal data is transmitted.
  • TMDB CDN (image.tmdb.org): Poster and backdrop images are downloaded and cached locally for display in your library. Only image URLs are requested.
  • GitHub API (api.github.com): Periodic checks are made to the MPV player GitHub repository to verify if updates are available. Only the repository's release information is fetched; no user data is sent.
  • OpenSubtitles (planned): In a future release, the App may integrate with OpenSubtitles to download subtitles. If implemented, only file hashes and file names will be sent to identify matching subtitles. This Privacy Policy will be updated accordingly before this feature is enabled.

3. Future Advertising

In future versions of the App, the free tier may include advertisements delivered through a third-party advertising SDK. If and when advertising is introduced, this Privacy Policy will be updated to reflect any additional data processing that may occur. We will notify users of such changes in advance through the App and/or Website. Premium users will not be subject to advertising.

4. Data Storage and Security

All App data is stored locally on your device at %LOCALAPPDATA%\MediaboxMC\ in a SQLite database and associated cache files. We do not have access to this data, nor is it transmitted to any server under our control. The security of your local data depends on the security measures applied to your device and operating system. We recommend keeping your operating system updated and using appropriate access controls on your device.

5. Your Rights Under GDPR

Because all App data is stored locally on your device, you have full and direct control over your data. You may exercise the following rights at any time without needing to contact us:

  • Right of access: All data is stored in your local AppData directory and can be inspected at any time.
  • Right to rectification: You may modify your library, preferences, and settings directly within the App.
  • Right to erasure: You may delete all App data by using the in-app library reset feature, manually deleting the %LOCALAPPDATA%\MediaboxMC\ directory, or uninstalling the App (which removes all associated data).
  • Right to data portability: Your data is stored in standard formats (SQLite, JSON, image files) on your local file system and can be copied freely.
  • Right to restriction of processing: You may stop using any feature of the App at your discretion.
  • Right to object: As no personal data is processed by us, this right is inherently satisfied.

6. Data Deletion

You may delete all data created by the App through any of the following methods:

  • In-app library reset: Use the built-in library reset function in the App settings to clear all library data, watch history, and cached metadata.
  • Manual deletion: Delete the folder %LOCALAPPDATA%\MediaboxMC\ and all its contents.
  • Uninstallation: Uninstalling the App removes all associated data from your device.

7. Data Retention

Local data created by the App is retained on your device until you choose to delete it or uninstall the App. We have no access to and do not retain any copy of your local data. Website browsing data processed by Cloudflare is subject to Cloudflare's data retention policies.

8. Children's Privacy

The App is not intended for use by children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect any personal data from children. Since the App collects no personal data from any user, no specific age verification mechanism is implemented. Parents and guardians should supervise their children's use of the App and their device.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in the App, applicable laws, or our practices. Material changes will be communicated through a notice in the App and/or on the Website. The "Last updated" date at the top of this policy indicates when it was most recently revised. We encourage you to review this policy periodically.
